2014 – Game of the Year

As 2014 draws to a close, it is a time for reflection. to my mind, 2014 has been potentially the most disappointing gaming year in some considerable time. Great expectations have turned into damp squibs as the next console generation has failed to get into its stride, and time and time again anticipation of the next big title has let us down. That said, its not all been doom and gloom – there have been some real gems nestled in the mound of mediocrity, and the guys at Zero1Gaming have got together to bring you their highlights. Dragon Age: Inquisition – PS3 & Xbox 360

Okay, BioWare. Sit down. Let’s have a talk.

Now, you and I both know that we’ve had a bit of a rocky relationship lately. We both said and did some things that we regret over the past few years. You tacked on a terrible ending to an otherwise fantastic game when you unleashed Mass Effect 3 upon us. And I sent you a thousand cupcakes in protest. You rushed a buggy and incomplete Dragon Age II through development at the behest of your friends at EA (who I have to say have been nothing but a bad influence on you). Halo 2 Retrospective

In light of the release of The Master Chief Collection, I wanted to take the time to appreciate the main focus of the collection Halo: 2 and celebrate what an amazing feat it is that the game is still such an enjoyable experience ten years later.

For those not entirely clued up about The MCC, this year marks the ten year anniversary of Halo: 2, and so 343 industries took the opportunity to re-release all of the numbered Halo games. This means Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo: 2 Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4 all in one package and all bumped up to 1080p and 60fps. Nice. Read more …

Pure Pool

When I was growing up, most of the time I should have spent at college, part time job and, later, university was spent playing snooker and pool. There was a particularly nice arrangement in my local pool hall when I was at uni where table time was a pound an hour between midnight and six in the morning, which was about all I could afford. This may have had some input on me dropping out of uni, but as many previous employers have told me it was time very much well spent. I therefore feel qualified to provide expert opinion on Pure Pool, the latest release from VooFoo Studios on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Read more …
