In a sign of its increasing popularity worldwide, Square-Enix have opted to give fans of its hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn around the globe the opportunity to watch upcoming conventions on live streams. The Fan Festival 2014 is being hosted in Las Vegas (October 17th, 18th and 19th), Tokyo (October 20th and 21st) and London (October 24th and 25th) this year, with each gathering being streamed over the internet in a manner similar to Blizzard’s past offerings with BlizzCon.
A post yesterday on both the North American and European Lodestone websites for FFXIV gave gamers further details on what to expect. Two services are being offered: free and premium. The paid stream – the price for which has yet to be announced – will include access to the Opening Keynote from Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) and the closing ceremony, as well as being broadcast in HD. There will also be a code for an in-game item set – an entire Mog Suit – for everyone who purchases the stream; this was previously thought to be exclusive to those who actually attended the events in person.
The free stream, meanwhile, will be shown in SD resolutions only and have no access to the aforementioned keynote and ceremony, but will apparently include access to everything else. As is to be expected, there won’t be a free moogle outfit in it for you, either.
With more and more about the upcoming 2.4 content patch (Dreams of Ice) being revealed every week, one can only imagine what they’re keeping back to be announced that they feel is stream-worthy. We already know there will be an entirely new dungeon (Snowcloak) and new Hard-Mode renditions of Sastasha and The Sunken Temple of Qarn, not to mention the appearance of a new Primal (namely Shiva). We’re also going to see the first new character classe/job combo since the game’s launch: the Rogue and Ninja, both of which employ some interesting new combat styles.
What seems certain (and doubtlessly the reason behind offering the stream at all) is that they will be announcing the first expansion, or at least teasing us with some pertinent details. Through various sources, we know that there will be a new race, at least one other new class/job combo, an increase in the level cap as well as a swathe of other new content. Some are even speculating the possibility of flying mounts.
After suffering an abysmal original launch several years ago, A Realm Reborn has gone from success to success, with over 2.3 million paying players worldwide. Keep your eyes peeled for more news about this excellent MMO here at Zero1Gaming, since there’s very little chance that I’m going to shut up about it any time soon.
