I’ve been a Zelda fanboy from back when I stumbled upon my father’s NES game collection and picked up the shiny golden cartridge that was The Legend of Zelda. Admittedly, I had no idea what was happening, but the bright colours, open world, and heroic music hooked me from the very first moment. I’ve followed the series from platform to platform, saving Hyrule more times than I can remember, but my favourite game in this long running series has always been Ocarina of Time. The music, combat, and story remain relevant even today, thanks to the 3DS remake that came out a few years back. And while most entries in Legend of Zelda are loved and admired in one form or another, there is one that is often overlooked – Majora’s Mask. Read more …
New 3DS XL Console Review: Majora’s Mask Edition
I’m a big fan of The Legend Of Zelda series. I wish I could say that I’ve been a fan from the beginning when the original was released on the NES in ’87, but it was 1998’s N64 release that introduced me and many others to this epic saga. I was 8 years old when Ocarina Of Time was released and I loved the game, though in my foolish youth I never finished it, and so when it was re-released with updated graphics for the 3DS in 2011 I bought it upon release. This purchase unleashed the Zelda fan hidden inside me, I immediately made it my life goal to play through them all, every entry in the series. To this day I’ve made a lot of progress, I’ve played some that were great and some that weren’t so great (Zelda: II, I’m looking at you) and while my favourite will probably always be Link’s Awakening there’s one more that I’ve been waiting to play, one that some would attack me in the street for calling myself a Zelda fan without playing, one that I tried to play at age 10 but failed so epically that I never returned: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Regarded as the weirdest and creepiest entry in the series I felt it only right to purchase the beautiful special edition New 3DS XL in order to play this game the way it was intended with dual thumbstick control. So let’s have a look and see what came in the box.
Persona Q Review
In the world of JRPGs, it used to be that, if you wanted a great game, you need look no further than the Square Enix release schedule. So many classics of the genre can be found in their back catalogue of games that it is easy to forget that, for the last 18 years, someone else has been making the best JRPG series out there. I’m talking, of course, about Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, and though it has sometimes had a rocky road to release here in the west (The first half of Persona 2 wasn’t actually released in North America until 2011, 12 years after it hit Japan), last week the latest entry, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, hit European shelves and it has completely absorbed my life since. Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire Review: Not Enough Water
If you were to read the article I posted last week with my initial impressions of playing through the Demo of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire you would know that the two major points I wanted to see improved upon over Pokemon X and Y were the low difficulty and the amount of end game content. Did Pokemon ORAS deliver the goods? Let’s find out. Read more …
Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire Demo Impressions
Recently Nintendo sent me an exclusive download code for the Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire Demo, in anticipation of the games release I figured I’d give it a whirl. My full copy of Alpha Sapphire is downloading now and in a weeks’ time I will have a full review up for you, but until then I wanted to have a quick look at the impression I was left with after the demo and the elements I hope to see implemented in the new release. Super Smash Brothers 3DS Review
I didn’t come into Super Smash Brothers 3DS without some worries. To me, Smash isn’t a fighting game. It’s a party game. It’s the kind of game I play with my friends in the same room, starting at 8pm and finishing somewhere around dawn the next day. It is a chance to shout and swear and curse the day someone allowed that goddamn shock rat in this round.
It brings out almost as much anger as blue shells for me, but it’s the best kind of anger because soon I’ll be able to break those bitches with a well-placed Falcon Punch. Read more …
