The Escapists Review

Don’t be fooled by The Escapists cutesy graphics and quirky charm. Underneath its modest exterior lies a devilishly punishing prison escape game that will have you tearing your hair out at times and punching the air in celebration at others.

Developed by Mouldy Toof Studios, which is predominantly one man Chris Davis, and published by Team 17 of the Worms franchise, The Escapists sees you thrown into gradually more complex and demanding prisons and tasked with, as the name suggests, escaping.

#IDARB Review

#IDARB (short for I Drew a Red Box) began life as a unique experiment on Twitter. The developer posted a picture of a red box, hence the name, and encouraged users to give him ideas on how to make said box into a game. How that managed to turn into a pixel art, futuristic basketball(ish) e-sport game is beyond me, but hey, that’s social media for you.

Watch a game of IDARB for the first time and you could be forgiven for wondering what the hell is going on. The basic premise of the game is that there are two teams of between one and four players each and a goal at either end of the arena. As per most sports points are awarded for getting the ball into the other team’s goal. Read more …

Terraria Review Xbox One/Playstation 4

First of all, let me preface this review by stating that before my experience with the Xbox One version, I had never Terraria on any console or PC before. Therefore this review will be more about whether Terraria is a good game as opposed to whether it is worth reinvesting if you have played it before. With that said, lets move on.

It is hard not to look at Terraria and think it is a 2D version of Minecraft. No matter how hard you try the comparisons are too obvious. Lets face it, you use a combination of axe’s and pickaxes to mine for various resources which you in turn craft into new and better items to allow you dig deeper and build better stuff. So far, so familiar. However spend enough time with the game and you will appreciate the subtle differences that make Terraria well worth your time.

Having already seen numerous editions of the game released both for PC and last gen consoles, many who wanted the game will have already played it through. But does the Ultimate Evil Edition do enough to warrant another purchase?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Pre-Review

Get your guns and backpacks ready vault hunters! Borderlands is back this October with the Pre-Sequel. What is a Pre-Sequel I hear you asking? Simple, the game is set between the events of the first and second Borderlands games, meaning it a sequel to the first and a prequel to the second. The game is due to be released on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on 14th October but not currently set to be released on next gen consoles. This likely means that it is intended to be a tiding over game until the unannounced, but surely in development, Borderlands 3 gets released. However that does not mean that 2K and Gearbox are resting on their laurels. They are intending for the Pre-Sequel to be the most feature heavy game yet, with a story that will appeal to casual fans but also be intriguing enough for long time fans of the series to come back for more.

EA Sports’ UFC Preview/ Demo Impressions

So here we have it, after swearing he would never get into bed with EA, then in typical Dana White fashion signing a deal to have them produce their UFC videogames for the foreseeable future, we are but a couple of weeks away from the official release of EA Sports’ UFC, the first in what seems likely to be a new yearly sporting franchise for the publishing monolith. The demo has been out on Xbox One and PS4 for a few days now, so this article will focus on the positives and negatives of the demo, and a last preview of the full game.
