Microsoft has revealed that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for pirated versions of Windows 7 and 8.1, as well as though who have legally purchased their operating systems. Microsoft’s operating systems unit chief Terry Myerson announced the news at the WinHEC technology conference in China. The move was designed as a way of connecting with the Chinese market, as three quarters on users in the country use bootlegged versions. As a result, Microsoft plans on gaining more revenue from Office subscriptions by giving pirates access to the same content as paid Windows users. Pirates from all over the world will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.
Microsoft is also partnering with Tencent in an attempt to improve its reach on Asia.
