Skiing Yeti Mountain is a mobile app created by Featherweight games. It follows a skier as they journey down a mountain, meeting the locals and searching for a yeti. With hundreds of short levels to master, Skiing Yeti Mountain provides hours of calming fun.
I downloaded the game on a complete whim, as it appeared interesting with its retro pixelated design, plus it is free in the app store, so I have nothing to lose. Basically, the way the game works is you use your finger to guide the skier down the mountain. Sounds simple enough right? Well you also have to steer around and throughout the obstacle course, all the while avoiding trees and jumping over cliffs. If you die you merely start the level over again. The levels are also timed. However, you do not receive a penalty if you go over the time. You just do not receive as many XP points after each level, which can be used to level up and unlock new gear. Since I have never cared too much about getting the perfect score within games, I simply ride down the slope without rushing to beat the time, especially as I have yet to master getting down each slope in the allotted amount of time. Luckily, for my sake, after so many tries on a level the game gives you the opportunity to skip the level. This has definitely come in handy, as there are some obstacles I just cannot seem to maneuver around.
I did not think much of Skiing Yeti Mountain in the beginning, but after playing a few levels, I find that the game and its controls are addicting and very relaxing. I can easily calm myself down after a stressful day by merely gliding my finger across the screen of my iPhone. That and hearing the soothing sound of the skis sliding down the mountain through the snow allows my mind to relax if only for a little. I doubt the creators expected or planned for this outcome, but it is a happy accident that I appreciate. Plus, the levels are quite short that you can always squeeze in time for just one more, giving it an addictive feel.
Half the proceeds from Skiing Yeti Mountain are being donated to a charity to benefit victims of the Nepal earthquake.

About Taylor Barkley
It’s actually quite simple. I love writing. I love playing video games. So, why not combine the two? When I’m not focusing on my academics, I’m either writing or playing video games. As a writer and avid reader I love a good story, because of this I tend to lean towards games that have a strong narrative aspect. Currently, I am studying Computer Science and Game Design in North Carolina. My ultimate goal being to one day make a name for myself in the game narrative field.
