Helldivers 2 devs promise more content as Steam reviews fall to Mostly Negative

May 14, 2026·3 min read
Helldivers 2 is getting hit by another wave of player frustration on Steam. Recent reviews have dropped to “Mostly Negative,” with players calling out bugs, balance changes, Warbond rewards, weak progression, and a Galactic War that no longer feels as exciting as it did at launch.

Arrowhead has now outlined what it wants to improve next. The studio says more content is on the way, but the bigger focus is on making the live game feel better to play, with summer updates planned for progression, rewards, testing, and new updates.

Arrowhead wants the Galactic War to carry more weight

The biggest planned change is aimed at the Galactic War, Helldivers 2’s shared campaign system. Arrowhead wants to move beyond regular Major Orders and build longer campaign-style events with clearer stakes, branching results, and better rewards.

Helldivers 2 is at its best when squads feel like their missions are part of a larger fight. When the war map feels too static or the rewards feel thin, players start to lose interest in keeping up the good fight.

Arrowhead says it has added more people to the team working on meta-progression and the Galactic War. The first changes are planned for summer, though the studio has not shared a full roadmap yet.

Warbond fatigue is now part of the backlash

The review drop is not only about one update. Players have been frustrated by the pace of premium Warbonds while older issues remain in the game. That has made rewards a sore point. Many players want more reasons to play that are tied to the Galactic War itself, not only to the next paid Warbond.

Arrowhead says more gameplay rewards are planned outside Warbonds, including future stratagem unlocks connected to the war effort. If that system works, it could give players a stronger reason to stay active between content drops.

Patch notes and testing are also changing

Arrowhead has also admitted that its patch notes have not always explained changes well enough. In a game where weapons, armor, enemies, and stratagems shape every mission, unclear balance changes can quickly turn into community backlash.

The studio says future patch notes should be more complete. It also wants to involve more players in testing before updates go live. That could help Arrowhead catch unpopular changes earlier, especially when one weapon tweak or enemy adjustment can change how squads build their loadouts.

The summer updates now matter more than usual

Helldivers 2 still has a large community, but the recent Steam rating shows how much patience has been lost. Players are not asking only for more content. They want updates that fix old problems, make rewards feel worthwhile, and give the Galactic War more purpose.
