PlayStation’s June State of Play puts Marvel’s Wolverine back in the spotlight

May 21, 2026·3 min read
PlayStation has set its next State of Play for June 2, and Marvel’s Wolverine is getting the lead slot. The show will open with a new look at Insomniac’s PS5 action game, including Logan’s combat and fresh details ahead of its September 15 release.

The broadcast will run for more than 60 minutes, giving Sony room to show more than one major trailer. PlayStation has not shared the full lineup, but the event will include updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals for upcoming PS5 games from studios around the world.

Marvel’s Wolverine finally gets a proper gameplay moment

Marvel’s Wolverine has been quiet for long stretches since its reveal, which is why this State of Play matters. Insomniac has already shown the game’s darker tone, but players still need a better look at how Wolverine actually moves, fights, heals, and cuts through enemies in real gameplay.

Sony’s official announcement points to Logan’s combat as the opening focus, which makes sense for a character built around close-range violence rather than web-swinging or ranged powers.

The studio’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games set a high bar for superhero action on PlayStation, but Wolverine needs a different rhythm. Fans will be watching for weight, speed, brutality, and whether the combat feels like Logan instead of another hero wearing claws.

PlayStation has more than one game to show

The Wolverine segment is the hook, but State of Play is not being presented as a single-game showcase. A runtime of more than an hour leaves space for third-party updates, first-party reveals, and release date news across the PS5 calendar.

That timing is important because the summer showcase season is about to crowd the news cycle. Sony now gets a clear moment to set the tone for the second half of 2026 before other publishers start stacking their own announcements.

PlayStation has only confirmed Marvel’s Wolverine by name, so any other game should stay in rumor territory for now. The safest expectation is a mix of new trailers, gameplay updates, and a few surprises rather than a full roadmap for every PlayStation Studios project.

The stream also has theater watch parties

The broadcast will air on YouTube and Twitch, with Japanese subtitles available. PlayStation is also partnering with Alamo Drafthouse for free live watch parties in select U.S. locations.

That is a small but interesting move for a digital showcase. It gives PlayStation’s biggest fans a way to turn the reveal stream into a shared event, which fits a show opening with one of Sony’s most anticipated exclusives.
