Alan Wake 2 marks Remedy Entertainment’s first survival horror game. Ritualistic murders in the small town of Bright Falls draw FBI agent Saga Anderson into an investigation that becomes increasingly supernatural, while writer Alan Wake remains trapped in the Dark Place, a nightmare reality where his stories can reshape the world around him. Players alternate between Saga’s investigation in the Pacific Northwest and Alan’s attempt to escape a distorted version of New York City. Both characters use firearms and a flashlight against supernatural enemies, with limited ammunition and healing items making exploration and resource management important. Saga uses the Mind Place to organize evidence on a Case Board, profile characters, and connect clues discovered during the investigation. Alan uses the Writer’s Room to rewrite scenes within the Dark Place, changing locations and opening new routes through its shifting environments. Players can switch between the two storylines at several points and progress through them in different orders. Exploration also reveals manuscript pages, puzzles, hidden supplies, and optional material that adds further context to the connected mysteries surrounding Saga, Alan, and Bright Falls.
