Battlefield 2042 is a multiplayer-focused first-person shooter developed by DICE and set in a near-future world shaped by climate disasters and global conflict. Players fight across large-scale maps using infantry, ground vehicles and aircraft in battles that can support up to 128 players on compatible platforms. The game replaces traditional classes with Specialists, each carrying a unique gadget and trait while still allowing players to customize weapons and equipment around different combat roles. Conquest and Breakthrough return as the main large-scale modes, with changing weather and environmental events affecting some maps. Battlefield Portal lets players create custom matches using weapons, vehicles, maps and rules from several earlier Battlefield games. Hazard Zone adds a smaller squad-based mode focused on collecting data drives and successfully extracting from the battlefield.
