01Overview
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena game and the stand-alone sequel to the Defense of the Ancients mod. Two teams of five players each control a Hero and compete to destroy the opposing team’s Ancient. Matches take place across three lanes and surrounding jungle areas, where players defeat enemy Heroes, lane creeps, and neutral creatures to earn gold and experience. Gold is spent on items that improve a Hero’s capabilities, while leveling unlocks and strengthens abilities. Towers and other defensive structures protect each base, and teams must gradually break through them to reach the enemy Ancient. Dota 2 features more than 100 Heroes with different attributes, abilities, and battlefield roles. Players can build Heroes differently from match to match through item choices, ability upgrades, Talents, Facets, and other systems. Neutral objectives such as Roshan provide additional rewards, while neutral items offer equipment obtained outside the normal shop economy. Regular updates continue to adjust Heroes, items, the map, and core gameplay systems, keeping the game’s competitive structure in constant development.
