Max Payne

Max Payne is a third-person action game developed by Remedy Entertainment and released in 2001. The story follows New York police officer Max Payne, who becomes consumed by revenge after his wife and infant daughter are murdered by criminals connected to the mysterious drug Valkyr. Gameplay combines gunfights with the game’s signature Bullet Time mechanic, allowing Max to slow down the action while aiming and diving through the air. Pistols, shotguns, rifles and explosives give players several options during increasingly difficult encounters. The campaign moves through hotels, warehouses, subway stations and other locations across a snow-covered New York City. Its hard-boiled narration, graphic novel-style cutscenes and noir-inspired story give Max Payne a distinctive atmosphere that became central to the series.
