Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person cover shooter set 14 years before the original Gears of War. Players follow Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde first erupts from beneath the surface and launches its assault on humanity. The campaign returns to the series’ darker horror influences, with familiar Locust enemies joined by new creatures and villains. Cover-based combat remains central, combining rifles, close-range weapons, executions, and movement between defensive positions. Reworked traversal adds greater mobility and verticality while preserving the deliberate combat structure associated with earlier Gears games. The campaign can be played solo, through two-player split-screen on console, or in online co-op with up to four players. Outside the story, Horde Siege reworks the series’ cooperative wave-survival format around larger PvE battlefields where squads defend against increasingly dangerous Locust attacks. Versus provides competitive multiplayer across new maps and familiar 4v4 modes. Weapons from previous games return alongside new additions designed for close-quarters combat, while the rebuilt cover system supports more varied heights, positions, and movement options.
