01Overview
God of War Ragnarök is the sequel to 2018’s God of War and continues the story of Kratos and Atreus during the final stages of the Norse saga. With Ragnarök approaching, the pair journey across all Nine Realms while searching for answers about Atreus’ identity, the prophecies surrounding him, and the coming war against Asgard. The story brings them into conflict with figures including Thor, Odin, and Heimdall while expanding the roles of allies such as Freya, Mimir, Brok, and Sindri. Exploration moves between large interconnected regions containing story paths, optional quests, puzzles, hidden areas, and powerful enemies. Kratos fights using the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, shields, and later additional equipment, with each weapon supporting its own attacks, skills, and elemental effects. Atreus assists in combat with ranged attacks and abilities, while certain sections allow players to control him directly. Progression includes armor, weapon upgrades, Runic Attacks, skill trees, and enchantments that support different builds. Traversal also expands through tools such as the Draupnir Spear and new environmental interactions that open routes across the realms.
