01Overview
Grand Theft Auto III is an open-world action game developed by DMA Design and set in the fictional Liberty City. Players control Claude, a silent criminal who becomes involved with gangs and organized crime after being betrayed during a bank robbery. The game combines story missions with complete freedom to explore the city on foot or by vehicle. Players can steal cars, use a wide range of weapons and take on jobs for different criminal organizations while avoiding increasingly aggressive police responses. Liberty City is divided into three main islands that unlock as the story progresses. Radio stations provide licensed music, talk shows and advertisements while driving. Grand Theft Auto III marked the series’ move into a fully 3D open world and established the structure that later GTA games would expand.
