01Overview
Grand Theft Auto Online is an online multiplayer action-adventure game set in the fictional state of San Andreas, with up to 30 players sharing an open world centered on Los Santos and the surrounding countryside. Players create their own character, earn GTA$ and RP, buy weapons, vehicles, properties, and businesses, and take on activities ranging from street races and competitive modes to contact missions and large-scale robberies. Heists combine setup missions with multi-stage finales that can require driving, shooting, stealth, hacking, or coordinated teamwork, while many newer activities can also be tackled solo. Progression is built around expanding a criminal career. Players can operate businesses as Executives, Bikers, Gunrunners, Nightclub owners, and through other enterprises, using properties as bases for missions and income. Freemode events, adversary modes, races, survival activities, community-created jobs, and recurring challenges provide additional ways to earn money and reputation. Crews and organizations allow friends to work together, while PvP remains available throughout many shared-world activities. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Enhanced, GTA Online also includes Career Progress challenges and additional vehicle upgrades.
