Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the wizarding world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Players create a student attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s and uncover an ancient secret that threatens the wizarding world. The adventure extends beyond Hogwarts into Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and the surrounding countryside. Players learn spells, brew potions, grow magical plants, and care for magical beasts while completing story quests, exploring hidden areas, and building relationships with other characters. Combat combines offensive and defensive spells with dodging, blocking, potions, plants, and Ancient Magic abilities. Different spells can break enemy defenses, control targets, or interact with objects in the environment. Progression allows players to improve talents, upgrade equipment, and expand their magical capabilities as the story advances. The Room of Requirement provides a customizable space for brewing potions, growing plants, upgrading gear, and tending rescued beasts. Players can also fly across the open world on broomsticks, solve environmental puzzles, complete optional quests, and explore dungeons and other locations away from the main storyline.
