How to Fish is a physics-based fishing simulator where drinking and boating end with a crash on a small island. To work your way back home, you have to learn how to fish, earn money, and complete quests that open the path to new islands. Players start with almost no equipment and catch, kill, and sell fish to afford better rods, weapons, and other gear. Fishing relies on exaggerated physics rather than realistic simulation, with catches often turning into chaotic fights or trick shots. The game can be played alone or cooperatively, with its loose physics allowing players to help or interfere with each other. Progression goes beyond simply catching more valuable fish. Quests and boss fights unlock increasingly dangerous islands containing tougher creatures and stronger equipment. Different fish can appear as rare variants for players who want to complete their collection. Trick shots increase the money earned from kills, rewarding unnecessarily complicated ways of finishing off catches. Players can also gamble the money they earn through fishing, adding another way to either increase their funds or lose what they have collected.
