01Overview
It Takes Two is a cooperative action-adventure game designed exclusively for two players, playable in local split-screen or online. Players control Cody and May, a married couple transformed into dolls after deciding to separate. Trapped in a fantastical version of their home and surroundings, they must work together to regain their human forms. Gameplay combines platforming, puzzle-solving, and action sequences, with each character regularly receiving different abilities that must be used together to progress. The game frequently changes its mechanics between chapters, incorporating sections involving shooting, racing, flight, combat, and other genres. Every major area introduces new cooperative tools and challenges rather than relying on permanent character upgrades. One player might manipulate time while the other creates copies of themselves, or the pair may receive completely different weapons that only work effectively together. Optional competitive minigames are also hidden throughout the environments. It Takes Two has no single-player mode and always requires two participants. Friend’s Pass allows someone who owns the game to invite another player to complete the full online adventure without requiring them to purchase a second copy.
