01Overview
Kerbal Space Program puts players in charge of the space program for the alien race known as the Kerbals. Using a large selection of modular parts, players design rockets, aircraft, rovers, and other vehicles that behave according to aerodynamic and orbital physics. Missions can involve reaching orbit, landing on moons and planets, performing scientific experiments, transporting Kerbals, or constructing bases and space stations. Successful flights depend on factors such as thrust, weight, fuel, staging, trajectory, and re-entry, making vehicle design and flight planning just as important as piloting. The game includes three main modes. Sandbox provides unrestricted access to all available parts for freeform construction and experimentation. Science Mode has players conduct experiments and gather Science to unlock new technologies. Career Mode adds funding, contracts, facility upgrades, crew management, and other responsibilities involved in running the space program. Kerbals can be hired, trained, and sent on increasingly ambitious missions throughout the Kerbol system. Players can also recover spacecraft, perform docking maneuvers, conduct spacewalks, and establish permanent outposts as their program expands beyond Kerbin.
