01Overview
Legends of Runeterra is a digital collectible card game developed by Riot Games and set in the League of Legends universe. Players build decks using champions, followers and spells from different regions of Runeterra, with each region supporting distinct strategies and playstyles. Matches use an alternating action system, allowing both players to respond throughout each round rather than waiting through long individual turns. Champions can level up after meeting specific conditions, unlocking stronger abilities that can reshape a match. Alongside competitive card battles, Legends of Runeterra includes The Path of Champions, a roguelike PvE mode built around upgrading champions and completing increasingly difficult adventures. Riot shifted the game’s development focus toward Path of Champions in 2024, while the existing PvP modes remain playable.
