Monster Hunter Wilds is an action RPG where players take the role of a Hunter exploring the Forbidden Lands, a region shaped by rapidly changing weather and ecosystems. Hunts revolve around tracking and defeating large monsters, then using materials gathered from them to forge stronger weapons and armor. The game includes 14 weapon types, each with its own moveset and combat style. Environments shift between harsh Fallow periods, dangerous Inclemency, and periods of Plenty, changing monster behavior and the conditions players encounter during a hunt. Focus Mode lets players aim attacks and guards more precisely while highlighting wounds and other monster weak points that can be targeted with special Focus Strikes. Hunters travel with a Seikret mount, which can carry them across large areas, guide them toward objectives, and allow access to a second equipped weapon while in the field. Quests can be completed alone with support from NPC hunters or online with other players, with cross-platform multiplayer available. The core progression remains centered on hunting increasingly dangerous monsters, crafting better equipment, and learning how each creature behaves within its environment.
