Bully-Like Open World Game Agefield High Comes to PS5 This Month

Agefield High: Rock the School is coming to PS5 on September 25, bringing its school-based open-world game to consoles shortly after its PC debut.

Developed by Refugium Games, Agefield High follows a teenager spending his final three months before graduation in an early-2000s American town. Classes, truancy, fights, bikes, side jobs, teachers, and police give the game obvious similarities to Rockstar's Bully, although it is a separate indie project with a smaller scope and its own coming-of-age story.

Players control Sam, whose family moves to the small town of Agefield shortly before he finishes high school. On his first day, he meets Kale and Axel, who recruit him into their plan to make their final months at school memorable.

The school operates on a schedule rather than serving only as a backdrop. Sam is expected to attend classes during the week, but players can skip lessons and use that time to explore the town or complete side activities instead. English, Math, Geography, German, and Music make up the five lesson types.

Good grades can earn Sam pocket money, while skipping school opens other ways to make cash. Breaking rules can attract the attention of teachers, and trouble outside school can bring the police into the picture.

That creates a simple choice throughout the game between following Sam's expected routine and using his limited time before graduation to cause trouble elsewhere.

The explorable area includes the high school campus, two neighborhoods, the town center, and surrounding countryside. Players can spend money on bikes, clothes, hairstyles, tattoos, and accessories while working through the main story and 15 side missions. The game also features two possible endings, with the developer estimating roughly eight to 10 hours of gameplay.

The studio has also been open about what the game is not trying to become. Its Steam description emphasizes straightforward gameplay and a smaller world rather than deep RPG systems or the scale associated with modern AAA open-world releases.

The similarities to Bully are difficult to miss. Both games put a teenage protagonist inside a school environment while allowing players to attend lessons, explore beyond the campus, get into fights, change clothes, ride around town, and run into authority figures.

Refugium Games has also pointed to another major influence: the raunchy teen comedies of the early 2000s. Agefield High is built around friendship, romance, rebellion, and the culture of that period, giving it a different tone from simply recreating Rockstar's school sandbox.

The PS5 release arrives on September 25 with support for DualSense vibration, following the PC version's August 12 launch. An Xbox Series X|S version is scheduled to follow on October 2.
