Blighted Delayed to 2027 for More Polish and Tuning

September 22, 2026·2 min read

Drinkbox Studios is moving Blighted into 2027 while it continues polishing the interconnected action RPG. The latest update also details world structure, fast travel, and ability-gated routes.

Blighted has been delayed from fall 2026 into 2027, with DrinkBox Studios saying the action RPG needs more time for polishing and tuning before launch.

The studio confirmed the new window in its latest development update after previously targeting a fall release on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. DrinkBox has not announced a new month or exact release date.

DrinkBox said the team has continued working on and expanding Blighted, but does not believe the game is ready to launch within its previous window. Rather than commit to a date before that work is finished, the studio has moved the game into 2027 to allow more time for final polish and tuning.

The delay follows months of internal testing and development. In March, DrinkBox said the team was approaching a major internal milestone after adding new levels, gameplay systems, narrative moments, and significant art updates. The studio later carried out another full-build playtest and brought additional developers onto the project.

DrinkBox says it will share more news in 2027, with one more development update also planned before the end of this year.

The latest update also shows how Blighted's world connects

The same devlog gave a new look at the structure of Blighted's world, which is made up of large interconnected levels filled with secrets, permanent upgrades, and boss encounters tied to the Memory Bandits.

Memory Trees act as checkpoints where players can rest, improve their character, change equipment, and fast travel back to Watcher's Peak. The hub serves as a home camp where upgrade items can be used at its surviving Memory Tree, while NPCs encountered during exploration can return there and help with equipment or provide more information about the world.

New abilities open more routes through Blighted's world

Progression also opens previously inaccessible routes. Abilities gained during the adventure can have uses outside combat, with DrinkBox highlighting Power Parry as one technique that can eventually help clear blocked paths.

Players will also have opportunities to choose which level to tackle next or switch to another if they need a break, while newly acquired abilities can reveal additional routes and rewards when they return. Blighted remains confirmed for PC and Nintendo Switch 2, with both versions now scheduled for 2027.
