Codename CURE II launches free with positive Steam reviews

July 29, 2026·3 min read
Codename CURE II is now available as a free-to-play game on Steam. The co-op first-person shooter launched on July 24 and has already earned a Mostly Positive rating from players.

The game currently has 79% positive feedback from more than 600 Steam reviews. It is developed by Raptor Byte and published by indie.io.

Codename CURE II supports online co-op for teams of up to five players. Solo players can also complete missions offline with computer-controlled squad members.

Players join an elite military unit fighting through areas filled with infected enemies. Missions include changing objectives and procedurally generated maps, so routes and encounters can differ between runs.

Five Classes Offer Different Roles

Players can choose from Pointman, Support, Assault, Technician and Sniper. Each class has its own weapons, abilities and role within the squad.

The Pointman focuses on close-range combat, while the Sniper attacks enemies from a distance. Support and Technician players can help keep the group supplied and protected during longer missions.

Enemy types include common infected, fallen soldiers and fast zombie dogs. Squads may also encounter The Disciple, a powerful boss that can appear during a mission and force players to change their plan.

Maps Change Between Missions

Missions take place across maps built from changing tiles and locations. Players must complete objectives while searching for resources that can be used to improve the squad’s equipment.

Between missions, the team returns to CURE HQ. Players can change their loadouts, test weapons, customise their soldiers and follow their progress through the military ranks.

The game also includes a detailed damage system with dismemberment, body deformation and fire effects. Character customisation includes uniforms, helmets, gloves and weapon skins.

Raptor Byte has already released several updates since launch. The patches have addressed zombie pathfinding, map generation problems, stuck enemies, lighting and weapon sound levels.

The developer also made Casual the default difficulty, giving players an easier start after the tutorial. A server browser update now lets players show full servers when searching for a match.

The Base Game Is Completely Free

Codename CURE II can be downloaded and played without buying the optional Combat Specialist Pack. The paid DLC adds weapons, attachments and military cosmetics but is not required for the main missions.

The PC version needs 13GB of storage and at least 8GB of RAM. It also includes Steam achievements, cloud saves and support for online co-op.
