Cyberpunk 2 job listing points to multiplayer quests in CD Projekt Red sequel

October 28, 2026·3 min read

A Cyberpunk 2 job listing references multiplayer networking and quest synchronization, suggesting CD Projekt Red is exploring connected gameplay features.

Cyberpunk 2 could feature multiplayer quests or other connected story content, according to a new CD Projekt Red job listing that specifically mentions synchronizing quest and game states between players.

The studio is hiring a Lead Quest Programmer for the sequel, with multiplayer network architecture listed among the role’s preferred skills. CD Projekt Red has not officially announced multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2, so the listing suggests the technology is being explored rather than confirming a specific mode.

The Lead Quest Programmer will oversee engineering work on story technologies and collaborate with designers and developers responsible for the sequel’s narrative systems. The position is based around CD Projekt Red’s North American team, which is leading development from Boston.

The most notable requirement appears under the listing’s optional qualifications. CD Projekt Red says experience with “multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests” would be useful.

That wording could apply to situations where several connected players need mission objectives, events or story changes to remain synchronized. However, the listing does not confirm co-op missions, competitive multiplayer or a shared open world.

This is not the first sign that CD Projekt Red is considering online features for the sequel. Previous job listings have referenced network systems and multiplayer-related technology, suggesting the studio has been building expertise in that area.

The original Cyberpunk 2077 was also expected to receive a separate multiplayer experience after launch. Those plans were later abandoned as CD Projekt Red redirected resources toward improving the base game following its difficult 2020 release.

The latest vacancy is more notable because it connects multiplayer networking directly to quest systems. That potentially offers a clearer indication of how online functionality could interact with the sequel’s RPG structure.

Cyberpunk 2 remains focused on narrative-driven RPG design

The same listing makes clear that story remains central to the project. CD Projekt Red describes Cyberpunk 2 as the next mainline game in the franchise, with its quest technology supporting complex narrative-driven experiences.

Another Senior Quest Designer position asks developers to create storylines, NPC communities and open-world events using Unreal Engine 5. That suggests the sequel will retain the quest-heavy structure of Cyberpunk 2077 even if multiplayer becomes part of the experience.

Development is being led by CD Projekt Red North America, with Phantom Liberty director Gabe Amatangelo serving as game director. CD Projekt Red has not announced platforms, a release date or any multiplayer mode, leaving the job listing as another clue rather than confirmation of how online features will ultimately work.
