People Are Trying To Resell Their GTA 6 Pre-Orders For Hundreds Of Dollars

June 29, 2026·3 min read
GTA 6 is already expensive at retail, but some sellers are trying to turn the preorder window into a scalper market. Listings for physical preorders have started appearing above the official price, even though players can still buy the game through normal stores.

Grand Theft Auto VI is available to preorder for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Standard Edition costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. The problem is not a shortage. It is people hoping panic does the selling for them.

Resellers are charging more than retail

Some resale listings are asking well over the official price for GTA 6 preorders. A few listings climb into the hundreds, while confirmed resale purchases have already gone above retail for standard physical copies.

These are not sold-out collector’s editions with rare statues or numbered boxes. Most are regular preorders for a game that remains available from official storefronts and major retailers.

The safest move is simple: do not pay a reseller for a copy that can still be bought normally. There is no good reason to spend extra on a standard preorder months before launch.

The boxed version is not a normal physical copy

Part of the confusion comes from the physical release. GTA 6 is getting boxed copies, but the box includes a download code instead of a disc.

That is important for anyone paying extra because they think they are securing a traditional physical game. A code in a box can still get the game onto a console, but it cannot be lent, traded, resold, or preserved like a disc.

Collectors may still want the case for the shelf. Paying a markup for that case is harder to justify when the actual game is still a digital download.

The preorder bonuses are easy to get

Every preorder includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, with the ’55 Vapid Stanier sedan, a garage, outfits, hairstyles, and a weapon pattern. Digital preorders also include one month of GTA+.

Those bonuses are not locked behind resale listings. Players can get them by preordering through official stores before launch, without paying someone else a markup.

The Ultimate Edition is also still the better option for anyone who wants to spend more. It costs $99.99 through official channels and includes extra vehicles, weapons, apparel, tattoos, shops, and content tied to Jason and Lucia’s story.

GTA 6 hype is doing the work for scalpers

GTA 6 does not need help selling. The game has been treated like an industry event for years, and that kind of attention creates easy targets for resellers.

The trick is making players feel late before there is anything to be late for. Preorders are open, digital copies will not run out, and there is still plenty of time before the November 19, 2026 launch.

Anyone seeing a marked-up GTA 6 preorder should check official stores first. The game is already expensive enough without paying extra for a preorder that is not rare.
