Pokémon TCG Pocket: Ruler of the Skies Officially Revealed

Mega Rayquaza is taking over the next chapter of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. The new expansion, Ruler of the Skies, launches on July 29 with storm-themed artwork, several Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, and a set of app changes that should make building and sharing decks much easier.

The reveal gives players several rare cards to look for. Mega Metagross ex and Mega Gallade ex join the headline Legendary, while new Trainer cards support Evolution Pokémon and Energy. Deck sharing, Card Dex changes, returning-player rewards, and a full month of events also arrive around the expansion.

Mega Rayquaza ex sits at the centre of Ruler of the Skies, giving the set a clear identity before the full card list is available. Rayquaza has always been one of Pokémon's most popular Legendary creatures, and its first appearance in Pokémon TCG Pocket should make it the card collectors look for as soon as the new packs arrive.

The early card reveals also include Mega Metagross ex, Mega Gallade ex, and more new Pokémon and Trainer cards. Mega Gallade ex appears built around Supporter use, while Mega Metagross ex may need more time and Energy before it can take control of a battle. The full card list will show how well both fit into existing decks.

Mega Rayquaza ex appears to use both Fire and Lightning Energy, which could make it powerful but harder to build around than a simple one-type attacker. New cards linked to Energy and Evolution Pokémon may help those mixed decks work, although the complete set will decide whether Rayquaza becomes a serious battle option or mainly a collector favourite.

Stage 2 decks often struggle in Pokémon TCG Pocket because faster Basic Pokémon ex can begin attacking before a full Evolution line is ready. Ruler of the Skies includes Trainer cards built around Evolution Pokémon, giving slower decks a chance to set up earlier and compete without depending only on the latest powerful Basic card.

That support arrives while Mega Evolution decks already have a strong place in online battles. Adding more high-health Mega Pokémon ex could make the same strategies even stronger, but better tools for Evolution and Energy may also bring older cards back into use. The balance will depend on whether those support cards help several deck types instead of only the new set.

Clouds, lightning, and dramatic skies run through the revealed artwork, giving the expansion a strong look even for players who care more about collecting than ranked battles. Mega Rayquaza-themed accessories will arrive beside the packs, helping the set feel like a full event rather than another small group of cards added to the app.

Players will soon be able to share decks through 2D pattern codes, removing one of the most annoying parts of following a guide or copying a tournament list. Scanning a code can rebuild the deck inside the app, so players no longer need to search for every card and add each one by hand after a new expansion changes the strongest choices.

The Card Dex is also being cleaned up so owned cards appear under every booster pack where they can be found. A new guaranteed high-rarity pull system is planned as well, although the exact conditions have not been explained. Welcome Back Missions will give returning players more resources to start opening the new packs.

August will continue the rollout with summer missions, a Ruler of the Skies Emblem Event, Community Week, a Mega Houndoom ex Drop Event, and a Wonder Pick event. The full card list and the rules behind the guaranteed pull system are now the most useful details still missing before the expansion arrives.
