Thimbleweed Park 2 announced for 2028

July 31, 2026·2 min read
Thimbleweed Park 2 is officially in development at Terrible Toybox, with Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert leading the project. The point-and-click mystery game is planned for early 2028 on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Gilbert also confirmed that the game will launch through Steam and GOG, with a Nintendo Switch version planned. Production has only recently started, so an exact release date has not been announced.

Thimbleweed Park 2 begins with another murder, this time at Edmund Mansion. Agents Ray and Reyes return to investigate, although the game’s description suggests their roles may not be as simple as they first appear.

Everyone inside the mansion is a suspect in a mystery inspired by classic whodunit stories. Players will need to explore the building, question its residents and find the person responsible for the murder.

The Steam page confirms that the game will remain a single-player point-and-click adventure. It will feature pixel graphics, puzzles, detective work and the unusual humour of the original.

The Story Is Not A Normal Sequel

Terrible Toybox describes Thimbleweed Park 2 as neither a traditional sequel nor a prequel. Instead, it will return to the same characters and setting for another strange story.

The first game ended in a way that made a direct continuation difficult. The new mystery appears to use that uncertainty rather than ignore it, with the developers promising that players will finish the night with more questions than answers.

Original Developers Are Returning

Several members of the first game’s development team will return for Thimbleweed Park 2. The confirmed group includes Gary Winnick, David Fox, Mark Ferrari, Octavi Navarro and Robert Megone.

Composer Steve Kirk is also returning to create the soundtrack. Gilbert plans to publish regular development blogs, giving players behind-the-scenes updates as production continues.

The team will self-publish the game with support from a private investor. This means Terrible Toybox will keep control of the project instead of working with a traditional publisher.

Thimbleweed Park Launched In 2017

The original Thimbleweed Park was released in 2017 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It followed five playable characters investigating a murder in a strange town filled with abandoned buildings, unusual technology and residents hiding their own secrets.

A free follow-up called Delores: A Thimbleweed Park Mini-Adventure arrived in 2020. Thimbleweed Park 2 can now be added to wishlists on Steam, with further details planned throughout development.

Agents Ray and Reyes are investigating a murder at the Mansion. In a spoof of a classic whodunit, everyone is a suspect and the murderer will be confronted…... If you can find them. Not really a sequel. Not really a prequel. It’s more Thimbleweed Park and just as weird.
