Uta Macross Console Development Confirmed After Crowdfunding Surge

September 16, 2026·3 min read

The campaign to revive Uta Macross has raised more than ¥100 million within its first 72 hours, clearing several stretch goals and securing development of a home console version of the discontinued rhythm game.

More than 3,000 people backed the project during that period, pushing funding to over three times its original ¥30 million target. The response has also unlocked additional music, including new songs that were never available in Uta Macross: Smartphone De-Culture before the mobile game shut down in 2022.

AUGUST launched the crowdfunding campaign on September 10 to expand a revival that was already planned for PC through Steam, iOS, and Android.

The initial ¥30 million goal was reached quickly enough for the company to announce a new group of stretch goals the following day. One of the most significant was set at ¥75 million, with AUGUST promising to begin development of a home console version if funding reached that point.

The campaign has now moved comfortably beyond it.

AUGUST says the console edition will be developed following the PC and mobile releases rather than launching at the same time. It has not announced which consoles will receive the game, so specific platforms remain unconfirmed. The revival is currently targeting spring 2027 for Steam, iOS, and Android. No release window has been given for the newly funded console version.

More than ¥100 million has also unlocked new songs

Support continued beyond the console milestone and passed ¥100 million within 72 hours.

At ¥90 million, the campaign unlocked an expanded song selection for UTA MACROSS SUPER DIMENSION 3D miniLIVE, a private 3D digital live set built around special performance sequences from the game.

Reaching ¥100 million secured something different. AUGUST plans to create additional songs that were not included in the original mobile release, giving the revival content beyond what players could access before its shutdown.

Those new tracks are planned for release as paid DLC after the base game. AUGUST has not yet revealed which songs will be added. The company said on September 14 that more than 3,000 supporters had joined the campaign and that it was considering further stretch goals after the funding total moved past ¥100 million.

The revival is rebuilding Uta Macross as a buy-to-play game

The project is based on Uta Macross: Smartphone De-Culture, a rhythm game featuring music and characters from across the Macross franchise that ended service in 2022. Rather than restoring the original live-service game exactly as it was, AUGUST and returning developer xeen are rebuilding it as a buy-to-play release that can continue operating without the old service infrastructure.

The base package is planned to contain around 50 songs, with additional material from the original game being prepared for separate DLC. Systems created around the former mobile model are also being adapted for the new release, including changes to progression and controls for the Steam version.

The crowdfunding campaign runs until October 31, leaving AUGUST more than a month to add further goals after the console version and new music were funded during its opening days.
