Zenith: Nexus servers shut down permanently on December 18

October 23, 2026·3 min read

Zenith: Nexus permanently shuts down December 18, 2026, ending access to its VR MMO worlds without offline play or community-hosted servers.

VR MMO Zenith: Nexus is permanently shutting down on December 18, ending more than four years of service on SteamVR, Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2. Developer Ramen VR says keeping the servers running is no longer financially sustainable after active development ended more than two years ago.

The servers will go offline at 10 a.m. PST on December 18, after which the live-service game will no longer be playable. Ramen VR currently has no plans to release an offline version or allow players to operate community-hosted servers.

Sales have already ended ahead of the shutdown

Ramen VR stopped selling the paid Zenith: The Last City content and Zennies premium currency on October 21 across all platforms. Players who already have Zennies can continue spending them until the servers close in December.

New players still have a short window to try the free version of Zenith: Nexus. It will remain available for new users to download until November 18, after which only existing players will retain access through the final month of service.

The closure affects both experiences available through Zenith: Nexus. Infinite Realms is its free action-RPG mode, while The Last City is the original open-world VR MMO that later became paid DLC within the revised version of the game.

Zenith stopped receiving new content in 2024

Ramen VR announced in July 2024 that it would end active development after struggling with player retention and the cost of continuing to support the MMO. New content stopped arriving the following August, while active player support ended in September 2024.

The studio nevertheless kept the servers operating for more than two additional years. Ramen VR now says maintaining them at a loss is no longer feasible, leading to the permanent December shutdown.

Zenith originally launched in Steam Early Access in January 2022 as Zenith: The Last City. Its VR-focused world offered multiplayer exploration, quests, dungeons, boss fights, crafting and several character classes, with movement systems built around climbing and gliding.

The most permanent part of the closure is the lack of an offline mode. Once the servers shut down, existing owners will not be able to continue exploring the world independently or transfer their progress to private community servers.

Ramen VR has answered both possibilities with “No, not at this time.” That means characters, social spaces and the wider multiplayer world effectively disappear when the service ends rather than surviving as a preserved single-player version.

The developer has said it will continue providing support where possible during the remaining service period, although full active support ended in 2024.

December 18 will be the final day to play

Existing players can continue accessing Zenith: Nexus normally until the shutdown deadline. Anyone hoping to revisit The Last City, spend remaining Zennies or meet other players in its VR world has until December 18 before the servers permanently disappear.

For newcomers, the more immediate deadline is November 18. After that date, Zenith: Nexus will no longer be available for new users to download, beginning the final month of a VR MMO that Ramen VR kept online for more than two years after ending new content development.
