01Overview

Octopath Traveler 0 is an HD-2D RPG set in the realm of Orsterra and centered on a new story of restoration and retribution involving the divine rings. For the first time in the series, players create their own protagonist by choosing details such as appearance, voice, and movements. Exploration retains the series’ Path Actions, which can be used to interact with characters, obtain items, challenge people to battle, or recruit new residents. Turn-based combat also returns with the Break and Boost system, allowing players to exploit enemy weaknesses, break their defenses, and spend accumulated Boost Points to strengthen attacks and abilities. More than 30 allies can be recruited, with parties supporting up to eight characters during battle. A new skill system allows action skills learned by one character to be passed to another, providing additional control over party builds. Town building is another major addition, tasking players with restoring their devastated hometown and inviting companions and other residents to settle there. Buildings and facilities can be placed as the settlement develops, tying reconstruction directly into progression alongside exploration, combat, and character recruitment.
