Phantom Blade Zero is an action RPG where players control Soul, a warrior framed for murdering his master and left with only sixty-six days to live after suffering a devastating wound to the heart. Hunted by former comrades, Soul travels through the Wulin to uncover the conspiracy behind his downfall. The game combines wuxia-inspired martial arts with a dark fantasy world of mechanical technology, occult forces, and ruined industrial environments. Exploration includes hidden passages, environmental mechanisms, optional stories, and branching routes that lead through different parts of the Phantom World. Combat emphasizes fast melee exchanges built around dodging, deflecting, countering, and chaining attacks together. Soul can use more than 30 primary weapons alongside over 20 Phantom Edges taken from defeated enemies, allowing different weapon combinations and fighting styles. Weapons can be upgraded and reforged, returning invested materials if players want to change their build. Several difficulty settings adjust the challenge, ranging from Wayfarer for players focused on the story to Hellwalker and Sixty-Six Days modes for tougher combat encounters.
