01Overview
Quake is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and released in 1996. Players explore dark, maze-like environments that combine medieval architecture, military bases and otherworldly dimensions while fighting a wide range of monsters. Combat is fast and movement-heavy, with weapons including shotguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers and the lightning gun. Levels contain keys, switches, secret areas and environmental hazards that encourage exploration alongside constant combat. The single-player campaign is divided into episodes that lead through increasingly hostile locations and powerful enemies. Quake also became highly influential for its multiplayer, particularly deathmatch, while advanced movement techniques such as rocket-jumping became an important part of competitive play. Its soundtrack was composed by Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails.

ULTIMATE EDITION
Quake
Quake is an updated and remastered compilation release of id Software's original Quake for the occasion of its 25th anniversary, including: - Quake (original version and enhanced update) - Quake Mission Pack No. I: Scourge of Armagon (expansion) - Quake Mission Pack No. 2: Dissolution of Eternity (expansion) - Quake: Episode 5 - Dimensions of the Past (expansion) - Quake: Dimension of the Machine (an entirely new expansion was developed for this release) The game also includes community-curated and updated mods as free downloads through their Bethesda.net service (online account and registration required), and includes a port of the Nintendo 64 Quake campaign on launch. The PC version is open to all mods, for the console versions the selection is curated. It features maps that have been slightly altered from the original PC campaign, a special screen filter effect, plus the original soundtrack composed for that release. The game's multiplayer has also been overhauled, allowing for four player same-screen co-op gameplay or arena versus modes, four player online co-op, or up to eight players versus online through Bethesda.net, which also allows for crossplay between the different platforms. Steam releases of the game also include Quake v1.09, which can be used to play older game campaigns and mods, as well as classic LAN multiplayer. This version of the game supports additional technical improvements for compatible platforms, such as widescreen support, 4K resolution, enhanced models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and more graphical enhancements. A later released free update for the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 versions introduces 4K/120fps.

MAJOR UPDATE
Malice for Quake
Malice: 23rd Century Ultraconversion for Quake is a commercial mod of Quake. While requiring a full, registered version of Quake, it acts like a stand-alone game, employing its own characters, weapons, environments, rules, etc. The player assumes the role of a mercenary named Damage, who works for the boss of an underground crime syndicate, Colonel Bossman. Damage's main mission is to assassinate the head of Takahiro Industries, Bossman's main rival. To do that, he has to venture into his heavily protected headquarters, dealing with security guards and robots on his way.
MAJOR UPDATE
Q!Zone
Q!Zone is an authorized collection of maps for Quake by WizardWorks. It was released in 1996. It would later be bundled with both the original Quake and the Malice total conversion in the form of the Resurrection Pack for Quake compilation, distributed by GT Interactive in 1998. The new campaign is simply a collection of 26 new single-player levels sprawled over three new episodes, plus a series of deathmatch/capture the flag maps.
MAJOR UPDATE
Quake: Abyss of Pandemonium
Abyss of Pandemonium - The Final Mission is a unofficial commercial partial conversion for Quake developed by Impel Development Team and published by Perfect Publishing. It was released on April 14, 1998. It includes 16 new levels (10 single player/6 death match), six new foes, four new weapons and 1 power-up.
MAJOR UPDATE
The Sword of Ares for Quake
The Sword of Ares is a 1998 unlicensed total conversion for Quake. The game adds several features not available in vanilla Quakes, such as the ability to switch to a third-person view (which may be a bit buggy) and several selectable player skins. The Sword of Ares was made of free content but was distributed as shareware. It appears that the registered version (as a separate PAK file) was eventually made available by the author as a free download too, as it can be found on PlanetQuake mirrors alongside the shareware release. It is an unofficial commercial total conversion, whether it was licensed by id Software is unclear. The game retailed at $9.99 on their official website.
