01Overview
Quake II is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and originally released in 1997. Players control a marine fighting the Strogg, a hostile cybernetic alien race, across industrial bases and military installations on their homeworld. Combat is fast and weapon-driven, with an arsenal including shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers and energy weapons. Levels are connected through larger mission hubs, with objectives often requiring players to activate machinery, destroy key targets or unlock new areas. The remastered release expands the original game with improved visuals, enhanced AI and quality-of-life features such as an objective compass. It also includes The Reckoning and Ground Zero expansions, the Nintendo 64 campaign, the new Call of the Machine expansion, and multiplayer with cross-platform support.
