Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an action-adventure platformer where Ratchet and Clank travel between dimensions after Dr. Nefarious gains control of the Dimensionator. The resulting dimensional collapse brings them into contact with Rivet, a Lombax resistance fighter from another reality, and her robotic partner Kit. Players alternate between Ratchet and Rivet while exploring new worlds and alternate versions of familiar locations. Traversal combines jumping, wall-running, the Phantom Dash, grinding, and the Rift Tether, which pulls characters instantly toward dimensional rifts during exploration and combat. Combat revolves around a large arsenal of unusual weapons, including the Burst Pistol, Topiary Sprinkler, Shatterbomb, and Ricochet. Weapons gain experience through use, increasing their power and unlocking additional upgrade options. Arenas mix ranged combat with fast movement, environmental hazards, and dimensional shifts that can rapidly change the battlefield. Optional pocket dimensions provide separate platforming challenges, while exploration rewards players with collectibles, armor pieces, and upgrade resources. Clank also receives dedicated puzzle sections built around manipulating dimensional possibilities and guiding groups of recorded versions of himself through obstacles.
