01Overview
South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure from Compulsion Games set in a fictional version of the American Deep South. After a hurricane causes catastrophic flooding and carries away her mother, Hazel begins searching for her across the town of Prospero and its surrounding regions. Along the way, she discovers that she is a Weaver, someone able to perceive and manipulate the supernatural strands connecting people, places, and memories. The journey draws on Southern folklore and introduces creatures shaped by painful events from the past, with Hazel gradually uncovering their stories while searching for her family. Hazel’s Weaving abilities are used for both combat and traversal. Players can Push and Pull enemies, bind them with magical strands, perform melee combos, and Unravel weakened Haints to remove the supernatural corruption affecting an area. Exploration uses abilities such as double jumping, gliding, wall running, and conjuring past versions of objects to create routes or solve environmental puzzles. Upgrades expand Hazel’s combat and traversal options as the story progresses, while encounters with mythical creatures and characters reveal more about Prospero and Hazel’s own history.
