01Overview

State of Decay 3 is an open-world survival game where players manage a community of survivors in a world still overrun by the Blood Plague. Reclaim territory, scavenge for supplies, fight evolved zombie threats, and build settlements that provide safety and resources for the people living there. Players decide where to settle, what facilities to construct, and which survivors to recruit, with each decision affecting how the community develops. Permadeath remains central to the series, meaning a survivor killed during an expedition or attack is permanently lost. Communities can expand beyond a single base by claiming multiple settlements and creating a wider network across the open world. Players reinforce defenses, craft equipment and explosives, treat injured survivors, and interact with independent enclaves that can become allies or provide new recruits. State of Decay 3 can be played solo or in online co-op with up to four players. Multiplayer now uses a shared world where friends can start a community together, expand the same settlements, and make decisions that contribute to their group’s long-term survival.
