01Overview
Stellaris is a real-time 4X grand strategy game set in a procedurally generated galaxy. Players control an interstellar civilization, sending science ships to survey star systems, colonizing habitable worlds, building starbases, and expanding across networks of hyperlanes. Empires can be customized through species traits, ethics, government types, civics, and other starting choices that shape how they develop. Managing planets, populations, research, resources, and fleets forms the core of expansion, while newly explored systems can contain anomalies, archaeological discoveries, hostile creatures, and other events that alter a campaign. Contact with other civilizations introduces diplomacy, trade, alliances, rivalries, and warfare. Players can negotiate agreements, form federations, claim territory, or build fleets to conquer competing empires. Technologies and traditions unlock new ships, buildings, policies, and other ways to specialize an empire as centuries pass. Mid-game and end-game crises can disrupt established powers with major threats that require players to adapt or cooperate. Stellaris supports both single-player and multiplayer campaigns, with each new galaxy generating different civilizations, events, resources, and strategic situations.
