Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a side-scrolling platform game and the first original 2D Super Mario entry since New Super Mario Bros. U (2012). Players choose from 12 characters and travel through the Flower Kingdom after Bowser uses a Wonder Flower to merge with Prince Florian’s castle. Courses retain the series’ running, jumping, enemies, and hidden exits, while Wonder Flowers trigger transformations that can reshape terrain, alter movement, summon unusual hazards, or change how a stage is presented. Collecting Wonder Seeds opens routes across the world map and advances the effort to stop Bowser. New power-ups include the Elephant Fruit, which provides extra strength and a water-storing trunk, the projectile-firing Bubble Flower, and the Drill Mushroom, which allows movement through floors and ceilings. Equippable Badges add actions or passive effects, letting players adjust movement and difficulty for individual courses. Up to four players can complete stages together on one system, with defeated characters becoming ghosts that teammates can revive. Online play displays live shadows of other players and persistent standees that can provide revivals without directly affecting the course. Friend rooms support up to four players in the same stage and can turn courses into races.
