01Overview

Super Mario Odyssey is a sandbox-style 3D platformer that takes Mario beyond the Mushroom Kingdom on a globe-trotting adventure. Joined by Cappy, a hat-shaped companion, Mario travels between distinct kingdoms aboard the Odyssey airship to stop Bowser from forcing Princess Peach into a wedding. Players collect Power Moons to fuel the ship, open new destinations, and continue the pursuit. Cappy can be thrown at enemies, objects, and animals to capture them, giving Mario their abilities and creating new ways to move, fight, and solve environmental challenges. Each kingdom combines open exploration with platforming courses, boss battles, minigames, and hidden collectibles. Regional coins can be spent on local outfits and souvenirs, while some costumes provide access to specific areas. Mario also gains movement options such as the cap throw and cap jump, which can be linked with his standard jumps and rolls. Snapshot Mode allows the camera to be repositioned and filtered for photos, and Assist Mode adds navigation guidance and more forgiving health rules. A local two-player mode lets one person control Mario while another controls Cappy. After the main story, additional Power Moons, kingdoms, and Luigi’s Balloon World challenge become available.
