01Overview
The Need for Speed is a racing game developed by EA Canada and the first entry in the long-running Need for Speed series. Players choose from a small lineup of high-performance sports cars and race across a selection of road courses designed to emphasize speed, handling and realistic driving. Each car has its own performance characteristics, with differences in acceleration, braking and cornering affecting how it behaves on the road. Events include single races, tournaments and head-to-head competitions, with additional content unlocked through progression. The game places a stronger focus on simulation than many later entries, combining detailed vehicle behavior with scenic point-to-point routes. Police pursuits also appear on selected courses, introducing the chase mechanics that would later become a major part of the series.
