01Overview
The Outer Worlds is a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. Lost in transit aboard a colonist ship bound for the edge of the galaxy, the player awakens decades later and becomes involved in a conspiracy threatening the Halcyon colony. Exploration takes place across settlements, space stations, wilderness areas, and other locations controlled by corporations and competing factions. Players use firearms, melee weapons, dialogue, stealth, and character skills to complete quests, while decisions can change relationships with factions and affect how parts of the story unfold. Character creation allows players to develop attributes, skills, perks, and optional Flaws that provide both advantages and drawbacks. Tactical Time Dilation temporarily slows the action during combat, making it easier to target specific enemies or body parts. Companions can join the crew, fight alongside the player using their own abilities, and provide personal quests connected to their motivations and backgrounds. Players travel between locations aboard their ship, the Unreliable, choosing which quests, factions, and characters to support as they determine the future of Halcyon.
