ARK: Survival Evolved is an open-world action-adventure survival game where players awaken stranded on a mysterious island populated by dinosaurs, prehistoric creatures and other dangerous wildlife. Survival begins with gathering basic resources, crafting tools and building shelter before gradually expanding into more advanced equipment, weapons and large settlements. Creature taming is central to the experience. Players can hunt, tame and breed a wide range of dinosaurs and other animals, many of which can be ridden or used for combat, transportation and resource gathering. Different creatures offer specific advantages, encouraging players to build specialised collections as they explore increasingly dangerous areas. ARK supports both single-player and multiplayer, with online servers allowing players to form tribes, cooperate on large building projects or compete against rival groups for territory and resources. Several major expansions, including Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction and Genesis, introduced new maps, creatures and storylines that expanded the wider ARK universe. The game later led to the animated series ARK: The Animated Series, the Unreal Engine 5 remaster ARK: Survival Ascended and the development of a sequel, ARK 2.
