01Overview
Doom for the Sega 32X is a console port of id Software’s first-person shooter, based largely on the Atari Jaguar version. Players fight through demon-filled military bases using weapons such as the shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher and BFG while searching for keys, switches and level exits. The core combat remains fast and aggressive, but the 32X release is more limited than the original PC version. It includes 17 levels drawn from the first two episodes and removes the entire third episode, Inferno. Several maps were also simplified to suit the hardware. Despite those cuts, the port preserves Doom’s basic structure of maze-like levels, secret areas, resource management and constant enemy pressure. It remains one of the more distinctive early console versions of the game.
