01Overview
DOOM: The Dark Ages is a single-player first-person shooter developed by id Software and a prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Set during a dark medieval war against Hell, the game follows an earlier chapter in the Doom Slayer's story, placing him at the centrer of a conflict between demons, gods and kingdoms. Combat is more grounded and weighty than in previous modern DOOM games, encouraging players to stand their ground and confront enemies directly. The new Shield Saw can block attacks, parry incoming strikes, deflect projectiles and be thrown into enemies, while an expanded arsenal includes familiar firearms alongside brutal melee weapons such as the Flail. The campaign also expands the scale of combat beyond traditional first-person encounters. Players can take control of a massive Atlan mech to battle enormous demons and ride a cybernetic Mecha Dragon during aerial sequences. With larger battlefields, an enhanced Glory Kill system and a more cinematic approach to storytelling, DOOM: The Dark Ages explores the Slayer's past while retaining the fast, violent combat at the heart of the series.
