Elden Ring is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with world-building contributions from novelist George R. R. Martin, the game features an expansive open world called the Lands Between. Players assume the role of a customizable character known as the Tarnished, who explores the world, battles formidable enemies, collects Great Runes, and seeks to become the Elden Lord. The game builds on the challenging combat familiar from the Dark Souls series but introduces a more open-ended structure with vast exploration, dynamic weather, and a day-night cycle. Players travel across the Lands Between on foot or aboard the spectral steed Torrent, discovering major Legacy Dungeons, smaller caves and catacombs, hidden areas, NPC questlines, and powerful bosses. Combat supports melee weapons, ranged weapons, sorceries, incantations, Ashes of War, and Spirit Ash summons, allowing characters to develop around different attributes and equipment. Sites of Grace act as checkpoints where players can rest and manage progression. Online features include cooperative multiplayer, competitive invasions, and player messages that can provide hints or warnings while exploring.
