Cuphead

Cuphead is a run-and-gun action game focused primarily on boss battles. Its visual style is modeled after 1930s cartoons, using traditional hand-drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Players control Cuphead or Mugman in single-player or local co-op as they travel across the Inkwell Isles collecting soul contracts to repay a debt to the Devil. Combat centers on shooting, jumping, dashing, and parrying pink objects while learning increasingly complex enemy attack patterns. Alongside major boss encounters, Run ’n Gun stages add side-scrolling platforming sections filled with enemies, hazards, coins, and hidden routes. Coins can be spent at Porkrind’s Emporium on new weapons and Charms that modify how Cuphead or Mugman performs in battle. Different shot types change range, damage, and firing behavior, while Charms provide effects such as extra health or automatic parries. Super Arts unlock powerful special attacks that consume a full super meter. Boss fights are divided into multiple phases that frequently transform the arena, enemy behavior, or available space, making repeated attempts and pattern recognition central to progression.
