Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced gets final major update with New Game Plus and Nightmare Mode

October 27, 2026·3 min read

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 adds New Game Plus, Nightmare difficulty, classic takedowns and new rewards on October 27.

Ubisoft has detailed the final major content update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, adding New Game Plus, a much harder Nightmare difficulty and several new rewards to Edward Kenway’s Caribbean adventure.

Title Update 1.0.8 launches on October 27 at 14:00 UTC across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Ubisoft says this will be the remaster’s last major content update, although smaller quality-of-life updates will continue over the coming months

New Game Plus can be repeated five times

New Game Plus allows players to restart Edward’s story while keeping most of the progression earned during an earlier playthrough. Weapons, tools, upgrades, trinkets, money, materials, outfits, hideout progression and Kenway Fleet ships all carry over.

Jackdaw upgrades, officer abilities and pets also remain unlocked, although officers must be recruited again. Story progress, active quests, quest items, map discovery and captured forts reset when beginning another run.

Players can continue as far as New Game+++++, with each successive playthrough making the Caribbean more dangerous. Elite soldiers become increasingly common, while maximum-rank ships begin patrolling the seas.

New Game Plus also introduces Escudos, a separate currency earned through challenges and previously completed treasure chests. Players can spend it on exclusive outfits and other items, while Reales can be exchanged for Escudos at General Stores.

Nightmare Mode removes some of Edward’s safety nets

Nightmare becomes the game’s toughest difficulty option and can be applied separately to combat, stealth, naval battles and other activities. Ground enemies deal 1.8 times their normal damage, ranged attackers fire more frequently and parry timing becomes significantly tighter.

Ubisoft is also removing the white warning glint from enemy attacks and disabling the protection that normally prevents Edward from being killed by a single powerful hit. Bullets and explosives can therefore kill him instantly even when he has substantial health remaining.

Stealth becomes less forgiving as well. Enemies detect Edward faster, investigate suspicious activity for longer and can hear him whenever he moves faster than a walk.

Naval encounters receive their own difficulty increases, making enemy ships more dangerous while also strengthening hazards encountered elsewhere at sea.

Classic takedowns and new treasure are being added

Update 1.0.8 restores additional assassination animations inspired by the original 2013 release. New variations cover hidden blades, unarmed combat, single swords, gunblades, microkills and double takedowns, with animations selected automatically during combat.

Six additional community chests will also be hidden across the Caribbean. Ubisoft says they contain requested rewards, while further outfits, trinkets, sails, crew customization options and pet appearances can be earned through exploration, challenges and New Game Plus progression.

The patch weighs 15.5GB on Xbox Series X|S, 4.5GB on PlayStation 5, 4.3GB through Ubisoft’s PC release and 2.1GB on Steam. Once Title Update 1.0.8 arrives, Ubisoft’s remaining support for Black Flag Resynced will shift toward smaller fixes and quality-of-life improvements rather than further major content additions.
