FromSoftware Takes Dark Souls 2 and 3 Multiplayer Offline Over Server Issue
Dark Souls 2 and 3 multiplayer servers are offline on all platforms, with no confirmed restoration date.
FromSoftware has temporarily shut down online services for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 across all supported platforms after discovering a server issue. The developer announced the shutdown on October 30, 2026, affecting multiplayer features on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The outage prevents players from accessing cooperative multiplayer, invasions, and other online features. Both games remain playable offline, but FromSoftware has not announced when their servers will return.
FromSoftware confirms server issue but gives no restoration date

FromSoftware announced the shutdown through its official player support account on X, explaining that it had discovered a problem affecting the game servers for both titles.
The developer confirmed that online services would remain temporarily unavailable across all platforms. It apologized for the disruption and said further information would be shared once a restoration schedule was available.
However, FromSoftware has not revealed what caused the issue or whether it involves a security vulnerability, technical failure, or another problem. As of November 2, the developer has not announced a date for restoring multiplayer services.

The shutdown affects several online systems that are central to the Dark Souls multiplayer experience. Players cannot summon others to help defeat difficult bosses or explore dangerous areas together. PvP invasions and online matchmaking are also unavailable, preventing players from entering another person's world for combat.
Other online features, including messages left by players and bloodstains showing how others died, are affected as well. However, the outage does not prevent players from continuing their single-player adventures. Both games can still be played offline, including their main campaigns and boss encounters.
FromSoftware's announcement specifically identifies Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3. The developer has not reported a similar shutdown for Dark Souls Remastered or its other games.
Shutdown follows recent maintenance, but the cause remains unknown
The outage comes shortly after FromSoftware carried out scheduled maintenance on both games. Dark Souls 3 underwent server maintenance on October 21, while Dark Souls 2 received similar work on October 28. In both cases, FromSoftware confirmed that online services had resumed after maintenance was completed.
Two days after the second maintenance session, the developer announced the wider shutdown. However, FromSoftware has not established any connection between the maintenance and the newly discovered server problem.
The situation also recalls an earlier outage in January 2022, when online services for several Dark Souls games were suspended on PC following the discovery of a serious security vulnerability. That incident kept multiplayer unavailable for months. Dark Souls 3 returned online in August 2022, followed by Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin in October.
The latest shutdown is different because it affects console players as well as PC users. FromSoftware has also not confirmed that the current issue involves a security exploit. For now, players must continue using the offline modes until the developer announces that the servers are ready to return.
